Rants, Recipes and Ramblings

A Day in the Life of Joe

It must be nice to live in a fantasy world of your own making (or to believe without question the pap fed to you by a basic public school education)
For the record (and for your continuing education) see below in context…

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

The Environmental Protection Agency was created by Richard M. Nixon. You know that scary nasty Republican President.

With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer’s medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance – now Joe gets it too.

Thank goodness again for Republican Presidents.  First with Lincoln for setting up the Bureau of Chemistry that evolved (1906, 1927 and 1930) into the FDA under Republican Presidents Teddy Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover.
An economics lesson:  It is not an “employer’s medical plan”.  The Employer is not funding it out of the goodness of his heart but rather is paying his employee less so that he can afford the premium to the Medical plan company.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Yep…  Upton Sinclair’s book “The Jungle” spurred on Republican President Teddy Roosevelt to transition the Bureau of Chemisty to the creation of the FDA.
Too bad the shampoo stung and burned his eyes though because “liberal” groups like PETA protested testing these type of products on animals before they were used by Humans.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Again remember that Nixon created the EPA.  By the way “government-subsidized” means tax payer funded.  Hope Joe thanks his neighbors for paying part of the cost it takes to move his fat ass into the city.  Oh, last time I checked with my accountant paying taxes to subsidize other people was not an “opportunity” that I could choose to participate in but rather was a forced collection punishable with prison time if I choose not to contribute.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays the same standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn’t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Nixon also created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Also the first Workers Comp systm in the Us was created in Wisconsin in 1911.  One guess as to the political party affiliation of the Governor of Wisconsin in 1911.  Yep!  He was indeed a Republican.
Isn’t learning facts a fun thing!  Reality is so much better than fantasy.

Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

Uhhh.  Just when we were beginning to make progress we find that you need a remedial class in Civics.
The FSLIC was created in 1934 by Democrat FDR.
The FSLIC had no jurisdiction over Banks.  It was for oversight on Savings and Loans hence the name “Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation” and we saw how good a job it did.  Also for those opposed to the growth of single family houses and the resulting sprawl into the suburbs the same legislation that created the FSLIC caused this too with the FHA.
Republican President Reagan finally put the FSLIC out of our misery in 1989.  I think what you are wanting to refer to is the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation).  The legislation creating this organization also came out of the Depression Era and was proposed by Republican Senator Vandenberg of Michigan.  FDR was opposed to the FDIC because he thought it would protect Bankers but caved under pressure from Congress.
Now the multi-billion dollar question.  Where does Fannie Mae get’s the money to “underwrite” the home loans?  If you guessed nasty Republican Wall Street derivative financial products like options and swaps your can feel redeemed.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-

Joe can once again thank Nixon who made the NTSB a separate organization from the US Department of Transportation in 1975 through the Independent Safety Board Act.  Also the NHTSA (National Highway Safety Administration) was created under Nixon in 1970.  The UN had created a similar entity in 1958 but Kennedy and Johnson and the Democrat controlled Congress would not sign the US to this treaty so Nixon created our own version when he became President.  The difference in standards between that created by the UN and the US is why it is difficult to import cars from outside the US into our country still to this day.

hating liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers’ Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired.

Too bad the “Liberal” Democrats won’t budge on estate and inheritance taxes because when Joe’s Father dies they will have to sell the family farm to pay the taxes even though Joe’s Grandfather and Father have paid taxes on the land when they first got it and have been paying taxes on it ever since.
Also, REA (Rural Electrification Act) was not a “demand” but an allowance for the creation of loans to States, Local Government and non-profit Farmers organizations to pay for the cost of extending electricity to rural areas.
The inspiration for the creation of the REA was the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) which was created by FDR and forced 15,000 families out of their homes so that their land could be flooded for the creation of Dams.  In the current political environment Liberal Activits would be chaining them selves to the front doors of those homes to protest this government taking of land.  But in the current political environment guys like FDR and JFK would not be members of the “Liberal” party.  They, like Ronald Reagan, Jeanne Kirkpatrick and other prominant Republicans, would have left the Democrat Party.

His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to.

Nixon also created indexing for Social Security so that older citizens that rely on that program for their expenses could keep up with inflation.  He also created SSI (Supplemental Security Income) for those disabled or over 65 with limited income.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn’t mention that the beloved

Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys through out his day. Joe agrees: “We don’t need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I’m a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have.”

Now that you have been educated you can see how downright silly the above paragraph is.
Next thing you know you will even be forced to agree that it was due to Republicans that the Slaves were freed (Lincoln) and that JFK’s legacy legislation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed only through the assistance of Republican Congress over Democrat opposition.  The Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the chair of the House Rules committee was not letting the legislation out of his committee.  Faced with losing a petition of a simple majority to move the bill out of his committee did it move to the floor for a vote where it passed 290 to 130.  It then went to the Senate.  The Democrats then led the longest filibuster (back when filibusters actually meant something) in Senate history (83 days) in opposition to the bill.  Finally after much compromise it passed the Senate 73-27.
Now the interesting stats on those votes. In the Hose 39% of Democrats votes against the Civil Rights act and 80% of Republicans voted for it.  In the Senate 32% of the Democrats voted against it (including still serving Democrat fossil Robert “KKK” Bryd) while 80% of Republicans voted for it.
